I am Professor of Political Science at the University of Vienna (Guest Professorship - 2022/23) and Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Political Science of the University of Innsbruck.
My research agenda focuses on the challenges and opportunities to democracy that arise in the context of migration, religious pluralism, and societal polarization. I have acquired 5 project grants as principal investigator since 2010 totalling 786.596 Euros in acquired funds. Currently, I am the principle investigator of a 4-year research project financed by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) entitled "Migration as Morality Politics" and co-principle investigator of the project "Ethical Dilemmas of Migration Policy", located at the European University Institute in Florence (Link). I am also a partner in the project "The Culture of Encounter and the Global Agenda" hosted by Georgetown University in Washington D.C. (Link). As of mid-2022, I have published 13 journal articles, eight of which in Q1 and Q2 journals (SSCI ranking), as well as 15 book chapters, a prize-winning edited book, and four journal special issues. My research has appeared in leading social science journals such as 'Journal of European Public Policy', 'Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies', 'Political Studies Review', 'Migration Studies', 'Global Networks', 'Religion, State and Society', and the 'European Journal of Migration and Law', among others.
